Work with scenario web scenes

You can create a scenario web scene with a selection of layer visualizations for planned buildings, planned surfaces, and parcels in the plan scenario. You can use the scenario web scene for presentation and outreach purposes as the layer visualizations allow for compelling storytelling. You can also create interactive experiences using the scenario web scene in other Esri products, such as ArcGIS StoryMaps, Instant Apps, and Experience Builder.

The scenario web scene is created in the coordinate system of the urban model. You can view the coordinate system of an urban model in the data manager or in the plan configuration. See Configure general settings to learn more.

Create a scenario web scene

To create a scenario web scene, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the plan that contains the scenario you'll use to create a scenario web scene by clicking the plan name in the view or use the search panel.

    The plan editor appears.

  2. Click the name of the scenario in the center of the header, if necessary.

    The scenario appears.

  3. Expand the drop-down menu named after the plan in the header and choose Create scenario web scene.

    The Create scenario web scene dialog box appears on the Web scene tab.

  4. Provide a title and, optionally, a summary.
  5. Click Next.

    The Planned buildings tab appears. All layer visualizations that you can choose from are listed on the left side of the dialog box. For the planned buildings, the layers can be visualized by the metric values configured for the plan.

    Note:

    The Planned buildings tab is available only if future buildings have been added to the plan scenario. If no future buildings were added, proceed to the next step.

  6. Drag the layer visualizations to be included in the web scene to the box on the right side of the dialog box.

    Alternatively, click Select all to select all layer visualizations in the list.

  7. Click the Edit button Edit button on the right side of the dialog box to choose the color ramp for the layer visualization.

    The Choose color ramp dialog box appears with a list of color ramps. Flip the color ramps by clicking Flip ramp colors.

  8. Click a color ramp to select it and close the dialog box.

    Keep the following in mind:

    • The style of the default and space use type visualizations is a built-in setting and cannot be changed.
    • You can remove the selected layer visualization by dragging it to the left side.
    • See Layer visualizations to learn more about customizing the resulting layer visualizations.

  9. Click Next.

    The Planned surfaces tab appears. All layer visualizations that you can choose from are listed on the left side of the dialog box. For the planned surfaces, the layers can be visualized by the metric values configured for the plan.

    Note:

    The Planned surfaces tab is available only if surfaces have been added to the plan scenario. If no surfaces were added, proceed to the next step.

  10. Drag the layer visualizations to be included in the web scene to the box on the right side of the dialog box.

    Alternatively, click Select all to select all layer visualizations in the list.

  11. Click the Edit button Edit button on the right side of the dialog box to choose the color ramp for the layer visualization.

    The Choose color ramp dialog box appears with a list of color ramps. Flip the color ramps by clicking Flip ramp colors.

  12. Click a color ramp to select it and close the dialog box.

    Keep the following in mind:

    • The style of the default and space use type visualizations is a built-in setting and cannot be changed.
    • You can remove the selected layer visualization by dragging it to the left side.

  13. Click Next

    The Parcels tab appears. All layer visualizations that you can choose from are listed on the left side of the dialog box. For the parcels, the layers can be visualized by the metric values, potential values, building parameters, zoning parameters, and suitability scores available in the plan. You can also export envelopes on parcels.

    Note:
    • You can filter the layer visualizations by type.
    • Suitability scores are only calculated for parcels inside the study area.
  14. Drag the layer visualizations to be included in the web scene to the box on the right side of the dialog box.

    Alternatively, click Select all to select all layer visualizations in the list.

  15. Click the Edit button Edit button on the right side of the dialog box to choose the color ramp for the layer visualization.

    The Choose color ramp dialog box appears with a list of color ramps. Flip the color ramps by clicking Flip ramp colors.

  16. Click a color ramp to select it and close the dialog box.

    Keep the following in mind:

    • The style of the default and envelope visualizations is a built-in setting and cannot be changed.
    • Envelopes are only available in zoning plans.
    • You can remove the selected layer visualization by dragging it to the left side.

  17. Click Next.

    The Finish tab appears and shows the number of selected layer visualizations for planned buildings, planned surfaces, and parcels.

  18. Turn on the Export only attributes needed for layer visualizations option to speed up the creation step.

  19. Click Create to create a scenario web scene.

    The scenario web scene is created. After the process is finished, actions you can perform next are listed.

  20. Optionally, perform the following actions:
    • Copy the URL of the web scene to share or embed it in an app.
    • Open the web scene in Scene Viewer to review it or change the layer styling.
    • Open the item detail page of the web scene in ArcGIS Enterprise to review the sharing settings and item description.
    • Create an app with ArcGIS StoryMaps, Instant Apps, or Experience Builder.
  21. Click Done to close the dialog box.
  22. The scenario web scene includes the following items:

    • Planned buildings group layer with selected layer visualizations and sublayers showing the replaced buildings and trees
    • Planned surfaces group layer with selected layer visualizations
    • Parcels group layer with selected layer visualizations
    • Projects group layer visualized by status and sublayers showing the replaced buildings and trees
    • Zoning (or land-use) group layer with boundaries and overlays
    • Plan area layer with dashboard values for the whole scenario
    • Context layers group with plan and scenario design context layers
    • Base layers including schematic and realistic buildings and trees
    • Dedicated pop-ups for all layers depicting parameters and other data

Scenario web scene customization

You can customize the layer visualizations and exported attributes in the plan scenario web scene depending on the requirements and further planned use of the web scene.

Layer visualizations

Planned buildings, planned surfaces, and parcels are added to the scenario web scene as group layers. As described in Create a scenario web scene, you can select multiple layer visualizations for each group layer and assign a color ramp to them. Each layer visualization corresponds to a sublayer in the group. In the web scene, you can switch between them using buttons.

Exported attributes

You can export all attributes or only the attributes that are required for the visualization. On the Finish tab, you can turn on the exported attributes option as described in Create a scenario web scene.

The use case determines how to export attributes. You can use the exported attributes in the feature layer beyond the web scene, for example, for further analysis. If you are using the web scene primarily for presentations, enable the exported attributes option to speed up the export.

Overwrite an existing scenario web scene

To overwrite a previously created scenario web scene of a plan scenario, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the plan that contains the scenario you'll use to create a scenario web scene by clicking the plan name in the view or use the search panel.

    The plan editor appears.

  2. Click the name of the selected scenario in the center of the header, if necessary.

    The scenario appears.

  3. Expand the drop-down menu named after the plan in the header and choose Create scenario web scene.

    The Create scenario web scene dialog box appears on the Web scene tab.

  4. Check the Replace existing check box.

    The check box is only displayed if you created a scenario web scene from that plan scenario earlier.

    The Replace existing web scene dialog box appears.

  5. Click the check box next to the name of the web scene you want to overwrite.
  6. Click Confirm.

    The Replace existing web scene dialog box closes. The selected web scene is listed below the Replace existing check box.

    Note:

    The layers in the existing web scene will be read and used to populate the list of layer visualizations in the upcoming steps.

  7. Continue with step 4 in the Create a scenario web scene section above.

View a list of created web scenes

To see a list in ArcGIS Enterprise of the Urban web scene items you created, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the user avatar button in the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Click My web scenes.

    The ArcGIS Enterprise portal opens in a new browser tab. Your list of Enterprise content is filtered to only show web scenes created by you in ArcGIS Urban.
